
Dharwad Town police have solved a bank theft case that happened on the intervening nights of December 31 and January 1.
The police have nabbed an accused in connection with the case, and the accused is a private bank employee in Belagavi. He broke into the bank and stole away Rs 20,64,117 in cash and gold ornaments.
The accused had broken into Sri Beereshwar Co-Op Credit Society in Dharwad. The police seized Rs 17.90 lakh and 615 grams of gold ornaments from him. The police said that the accused had befriended a bank employee and made duplicate keys of the bank.
The accused had painted blue and black paint on the CCTV cameras and stolen the storage device. He also burned documents. bank’s Ramesh Sripal Malai had given a complaint regarding the theft at the bank. The police said the investigation into this case is still going on.
