Dharwad: The off-campus campus of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Dharwad will offer seven courses, which include cyber security, digital forensics, artificial intelligence, DNA forensics, food processing, environmental forensics, and agricultural forensics, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing the gathering after laying the groundwork for a branch of the National Forensic Sciences University in the city on Saturday, he said that until the new building construction gets completed, the courses would start from a temporary campus, and he spoke to the CM on the way to Dharwad about this, and he readily agreed. “By the time the building gets ready, a few batches will be passed out, and they will be ready to take up jobs,” he said.
NAFIS will be strengthened further
Shah has said that the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) will be further strengthened in the country to solve crimes.
He said that technology is critical to solving any crime and that the police should use it to the fullest extent possible, and he elaborated on the impact of using the NAFIS app, which was recently made public. He said the app contains data on 1.5 crore finger prints. After making it public within 3 months, around 10,000 cases, including a 22-year-old case was solved.
A scientific approach would be taken to store the fingerprint data of all the prisoners at the National Crime Record Bureau. He said the NAFIS app would be strengthened, and he expressed confidence that forensic science would get more attention and that other state governments would give importance to this science just like Karnataka does.
Tried to make excuses, but Joshi was after me.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said he tried to make excuses when the issue of establishing NFSU in Dharwad came to the fore,: “I asked Pralhad (Union Minister), friend, you don’t have land for the campus and have not made any arrangements so far.” “The next day, Joshi sanctioned 60 acres of land with the help of the CM, and then I had no option other than to accept it,” he said.
