Dharwad: The excise department staff seized around 345 litres of spirit worth Rs 69,000, which was being transported in a Ford Icon car near Narendra village on Monday early morning.

The team led by DySP Atmalingayya Matapathi waylaid the car and seized the spirit-filled 16 cans and carry bags.

Inspector Netra Uppar, constables John Vargis, SV Kammar, SG Mujawar, Ravikumar Bilkar, and Balavant Ghodke were part of the team.

Two accused, Sunil Shankar Ballari, a resident of Hubballi Shantiniketan Colony, and Ramu Gaikwad, a resident of Mumbai, are still absconding, said the sources.
