Dharwad District Health Officer bats for model primary health care centres.

Dharwad: District Health Officer Dr. BC Karigoudar has requested the state government to develop four primary health centres of the district into model PHCs.

On Sunday, he met Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at his residence and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Dr. Karigoudar told that the Chief Minister responded positively to his plea. He stated that the state government is considering upgrading PHCs to hi-tech PHCs, and “We requested the CM to upgrade at least four PHCs in the district in the first phase,” he said.

Dr. Karigoudar said that the model PHCs will include all necessary amenities such as a well-equipped laboratory for basic blood tests and a radiology facility with X-ray and telemedicine facilities. He stated that the model PHC will have 20–30 beds rather than 10.

Karigoudar said that the district has 32 rural PHCs, 21 urban PHCs, three rural health training centres, and 185 subcentres attached to PHCs. He said as per the population, the district needs one more PHC, and the same was requested to the CM, he said.
