Dharwad: Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil is chairing a COVID review meeting on Tuesday as the Covid positivity rate crossed 5 % in the district. Nitesh Patil is likely to take a few steps to reduce the Covid positivity rate in the district. Sources said that he is mulling the option of announcing a holiday for schools just like the Belagavi Deputy Commissioner announced the holidays for classes 1 to 9 for one week.

Sources said that the DC is consulting experts to get their views on this. The Dharwad district positivity rate jumped to 7.53% on January 10 and students are testing positive during the routine testing for the infection.

Following the discovery of Covid cases in Hubballi, four schools were closed down, including a high school and a hostel in Dharwad taluk and Dharwad, respectively. As a result, it is said that the DC is considering declaring a school holiday, and whether he does so or not will be determined after meeting with said sources.
