Hubballi: According to Dharwad Telecom District General Manager D K Tripathi, the government-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is likely to launch its 4G network service in December this year.
Speaking to reporters at Sanchar Bhavan in Hubballi, he said BSNL is aiming to launch 4G network service by December this year; that is the target of the telecom company. He said the 4G service will be available in both rural and urban areas.
He stated that in order to provide proper internet connectivity to rural and remote residents, the government of India has launched the Bharatnet Udaymi scheme, under which digital connectivity is provided in rural areas at affordable prices.
BSNL is executing this project under a public-private partnership model. wherein it is predicted to enrol franchisees at the gram panchayat or village level on a revenue-share basis. Franchisees will provide the connection to subscribers in rural areas with free modem and installation charges. The customers only need to pay monthly plan charges, he said.
An amount of Rs 3,000 per connection will be paid to the franchisee on the provisioning of each connection under the scheme. He also stated that the franchisee or partner will be paid Rs 1,000 if the customer is retained for a year.
This scheme will give people in rural areas a way to earn money. “Interested individuals may walk into the nearest BSNL office to enroll as BSNL FTTH partners,” Tripathi explained.
The general manager said the Dharwad telecom district, consisting of three revenue districts (Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri), has 17 blocks containing 500 GPs and connected with OF cable, and of the 500 GPs, 90 GPs have BSNL FTTH partners. He added that by utilizing the existing telecom infrastructure, there is potential to provide 35,000 connections in the entire 17 blocks.
