Dharwad: Just a few months after Dharwad district forest department officials successfully released a leopard into the woods, two women from Kavalgeri village suffered injuries from a leopard, sources said.
Just a few months ago, a leopard strayed into the residential areas of Hubballi near Rajnagar and later it strayed into a field near Kavalgeri, but the forest department staff successfully captured the animal and released it into the jungle.
On Monday, two ladies who were said to have gone to attend nature calls around 6 am were allegedly attacked by a leopard. One lady suffered an injury near her eye, and one lady’s hand was bitten by the animal.
Deputy Conservator of Forest Yashpal Ksheersagar visited the spot and said that looking at the bite suffered by the women, it looks like the animal may be a wolf and not a leopard. “We are not denying the villagers’ claims either. We will place a cage to capture the animal, “he said.
Sources said the women did not see animal it was dark.
