Dharwad: 647 units in industrial estates have not got permission from KSPCB

Dharwad: As many as 647 units working in various industrial estates and industrial townships in the Dharwad district have not obtained permission from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to run their operations. 75 units have not obtained permission from the Department of Factories and Boilers. 978 units have not got permission from the labour department. 15 factories have not given ESI facilities to their workers.

As many as 101 units, or factories, have not gotten the necessary permission from the energy department; 278 units have violated bylaws of the KIADB, and 106 industrial units have violated KSSIDC bylaws, said the district administration in a press communique.

These violations came to the fore during the investigation ordered by the Deputy Commissioner after a fire accident at IC Flame factory in Tarihal in which six labourers died and two suffered injuries. The Deputy Commissioner had constituted 10 team by appointing the District Industry Centre Joint Director as a nodal officer to check whether the industrial units established in the industrial estates are running according to the norms and have obtained all the necessary permissions from the concerned authorities.

The survey began on July 26 and it was completed on August 6, the district has 10 Industrial Township , six industrial estates and the teams have completed the survey of 2, 180 industrial units. The administration has ordered four units to stop production and show cause notice was served to 75 units. And officials have been instructed to issue notice to the units that violated the laws or running without permission in the next three days and the administration has given two months’ time to rectify the deficiencies.
