Despite being attacked, Annigeri PSI and team  nab member of robbery gang

Hubballi: For the past two days, the courageous efforts of Annigeri Police Sub Inspector C Umadevi and her team to capture the suspect in the sheep theft case have been the talk of Annigeri town. The PSI and her team put their lives in danger to apprehend the thieving crew, but they had little success as they were able to apprehend one suspect while the others managed to flee after fighting the police.

According to the police, they were looking for the suspect who was suspected of stealing 16 sheep from a sheep shed in Annigeri on Thursday morning after showing the facility’s guard a knife. The police received information about the thieves the same day evening, and they went on the hunt for them on Gadag-Hubballi Road close to Dundur Cross in the Dharwad district police limits. According to the information they received, bandits in a Bolero car without a licence plate drove by the police jeep. The criminals did not slow down, and the police followed them in their car. The police were able to exit their jeep when they stopped their car, but the accused unexpectedly rammed the police vehicle.

When the police attempted to apprehend them, one of the suspects attacked the PSI and a constable with a knife, while the other two suspects fled after punching two constables. One accused was captured. Laxman Durgappa Modker, 29, a native of Shalavadi village, has been named as the accused.

Annigeri block Congress president Manjunath Mayannavar hailed the police and said that though they got little success in this case, one should appreciate their efforts, they risked their lives to catch those accused. One accused was arrested remaining would be arrested soon, Mayannavar expressed confidence.
