Hubballi: On Tuesday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K Ramarajan filed a police complaint against Ashok Anvekar and 100 others for using abusive language against him and other police officers during an impromptu agitation demanding the arrest of an accused who allegedly forced a victim to change his religion.

In the complaint registered by the DCP himself at the APMC/Navanagar station, the DCP said, during a protest by Bajrang Dal and other organizations on Sunday in front of APMC/Navanagar police station demanding arrest of an accused who allegedly forced a person to change his faith, over 100 protesters including a person called Ashok Anvekar hurled abusive language against him and other officers.

DCP Ramarajan confirmed the www.hubliexpress.com that he registered a complaint against the protesters who used abusive language against him and other officers on Tuesday evening.

During the Sunday protest, a few demonstrators used insulting words toward the DCP and alleged that he did not take fast action against the accused.

Protesters also claimed that the DCP was involved in religious conversion activities, and they asked that Police Commissioner Labhu Ram and the Home Minister immediately suspend the DCP.

Anvekar and 100 others were charged by the APMC police under IPC sections 504, 143, 147, 149, 153, 295A, 298, and 353.

What happened on Sunday?

A resident of Mantur Road alleged that a person called Somu Avaradhi, resident of Navanagar has been forcing him to change his faith. And on Sunday, Somu Avaradhi allegedly used abusive language against him as the accused approached him to change his faith.

Hearing this news, the right-wing activists started a protest near the religious place in Bhairidevarkopppa and later they enter the place and allegedly sang Bhajans and chanted Mantras. After that the right-wing activists blocked Hubballi-Dharwad Road, the police persuaded the protesters and cleared the traffic. Later the protesters sat on Dharna on the steps of APMC/Navanagar police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

In the evening, Hubballi-Dharwad( West) MLA Arvind Bellad joined the protesters and they all sat on the Dharna till 11.30 pm and dispersed only after Police Commissioner Labhu Ram’s assurance that the accused would be arrested at the earliest.

The accused was arrested by the police on Monday ( October 18)
