Shivamogga city is limping back to normalcy. Barring an arson incident, the overall situation in the city on Tuesday remained calm. Deputy Commissioner R Selvamani has said that they have extended the curfew imposed in Shivamogga city and it will be in force for the next two days, till Friday morning.
Communal tension gripped the city following the murder of Hindu activist Harsha. His final rite on Monday was marred by violence.
The DC and Superintendent of Police BM Laxmi Prasad informed reporters on Tuesday evening that the curfew will be eased tomorrow morning between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. for the purchase of essential items.
The Superintendent of Police said that in connection with the Harsha murder case, so far six accused have been arrested, of which four were directly involved in the murder and two were involved in the conspiracy. The role of the two, as of now, is said to be that they were involved in the conspiracy, but the investigation is going on and more details about their involvement in the murder case will come to light later, he said.
To a question, whether the accused have any connection with any organization? The SP said the investigation is going on and they will inform the press about it later. But the accused have criminal records, he said.
He said a total of 1,2000 policemen, including the men of the Rapid Action Force and Karnataka State Reserve Police Force, were deployed in the city and continuous monitoring of the situation was going on. An arson incident was reported on Tuesday, in which three bikes and two auto-rickshaws were torched by the miscreants.
The SP said that in connection with the violence that happened on Monday during the final rites procession of Harsha, police have booked nine cases and three more are in the process of being registered.
In the violence that happened on Monday, 18 vehicles were damaged, of which four were torched by the miscreants. And eight people were injured in that violence, he said.
