Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have taken a historic decision of forming a separate Ministry of Divyang (Differently Abled People). The Ministry will come into force from 3rd Dec, 2022 which is an “International Disabled Day”. The Ministry proposes to work for social justice and welfare of Divyangs.
Omprakash alias Bacchu Kadu, MLA Achalpur has been fighting for over two decades & his demand is fulfilled said Eknath Shinde.
In an effort to extend all the government facilities to “Divyangs” Chief Minister has directed his subordinates to take a door-to-door survey & provide all government facilities to deserving Divyangs.
Chief Minster has gone ahead and assured Divyang Bhavan and rehabilitation centre for such people in every district in association with the Zilla Parishads and Municipal Councils.
Various schemes mooted by different department will be brought under one umbrella of Ministry of Divyang. The education, health, employment, scholarships, self-employment, travel facilities are given top priority. There are also plans to set up a separate university for Divyangs.
An eye opener for Karnataka?
Karnataka has close to 14 lakh Divyangs, among them 7.5 lakh are male & 6.5 lakh are female. Hearing impaired (over 2.5 lakh), Loss of vision (close to 3 lakh), Speaking disability (close to 1.5 lakh), Locomotor disorder (3.5 lakh), mentally retarded (1 lakh), other disabilities (2.5 lakh). These figures definitely deserve a Separate Ministry in Karnataka also.
It is very unfortunate that only Maharashtra has thought of such a ministry which is only dedicated for the people with disability. It would a kind and humble request to the Chief Minister of Karnataka to take look over this and try to do something for people with disability because when Maharashtra can take a historic decision then why not Karnataka. We hope, it is never too late, good things to be taken from other sides of the border and Karnataka will also take care of our “Divyang Brothers & Sisters”
