Hubballi: Congress party stalwarts Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge will be holding an election rally today evening (Saturda) in the city to seek support for seven candidates of Dharwad district vying for assembly constituencies.
The rally, which is set to take place at the Youngsters Sports Club on Mantur Road in the Hubballi-Dharwad (East) constituency at around 5.30 P.M., is a historic moment for the grand-old party as it marks the first time that Sonia Gandhi, the former AICC chief, will be campaigning for candidates after a long gap, AICC general secretary Manickam Tagore said.
Speaking at a press conference in Hubballi, the AICC general secretary announced that the party had chosen Dharwad district for the event and that the visit of all three leaders would boost the morale of party workers, encouraging them to fight the election more vigorously. Tagore did not elaborate on why the party had chosen the Hubballi city or Dharwad district for the rally but stated that it was a party decision.
During the press briefing, AICC secretary Vishnunad criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of campaigning intensely due to the fear of losing the election. He expressed confidence that the people had decided to vote against the BJP and bring the Congress government to power.
MLA Prasad Abbayya, Sadanand Danganavar, and other party members were also present at the briefing.
