The Congress party on Sunday resumed Mekedatu Padyatra with the tagline Namma Neeru Namma Hakku. The Padayatra, which began last month in Sangam, was temporarily halted due to an increase in Covid cases, and the second portion of the Padayatra commenced from Ramanagar. For the next five days, Congress leaders will march towards Bengaluru, the Padyatra culminate at the National College Grounds.
DK Suresh, MP from Ramanagar, stated that the Padyatra will continue for the next five days. He stated that the march is for the people and to quench their thirst. Then, Siddaramaiah’s Congress government chose to build a balancing reservoir at Mekedatu across the Cauvery River. The Congress government prepared a detailed project for this project three times and submitted it to the Union Government each time.
The march was attended by Congress leaders such as RS Surjewala, DK Shivakumar, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, Saleem Ahmad, and BV Srinivas.
