The Congress party has accused the BJP of planning to murder the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, Mallikarjun Kharge, along with his entire family.
Randeep Singh Surjewala, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, released an audio recording on Saturday. The recording contained an alleged conversation between Chittapur BJP candidate, Manikanta Rathod, and a local BJP leader. In the audio clip, Rathod is heard making threats against Kharge’s wife and children, saying that he intends to “wipe them off.”
It is worth noting that the BJP leader is competing against Mallikarjun Kharge’s son, Priyank Kharge, in the Chittapur constituency. The Congress party has raised concerns about the safety of Mallikarjun Kharge and his family in light of these alleged threats.
According to Surjewala, the BJP is feeling threatened by the Congress party’s growing popularity, which has led the BJP leadership to plan a “murder plot” against the AICC president. He made this statement in reference to the audio recording of Manikanta Rathod, who is not only a Chittapur BJP candidate but also, as Surjewala alleges, the “blue-eyed boy” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Surjewala claims that the audio recording clearly indicates that Rathod was plotting to harm Mallikarjun Kharge and his family, which is a grave concern for the Congress party. He further alleges that the BJP leadership is directly involved in this plot, which is an indication of their desperation to win the upcoming elections.
The audio recording in question features a conversation between Manikanta Rathod, a BJP candidate who has been accused in several criminal cases, and a local BJP leader named Ravi. In the recording, Ravi asks Rathod about the number of cases filed against him.
In response, Rathod uses profanity to insult Mallikarjun Kharge and tells Ravi to obtain the list of “44 cases” registered against him from Congress leaders. It is worth noting that Rathod is contesting against Kharge’s son in the Chittapur constituency, and his derogatory remarks about the AICC president and his alleged involvement in criminal activities have sparked concern and condemnation from the Congress party.
Surjewala charged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will not speak on this so the Police and ECI will remain mute spectators. He said the Congress party will take legal action and will complain to ECI as well.
The alleged audio clip of BJP candidate Manikanta Rathod speaking with a BJP leader in which Rathod allegedly heard threatening Kharge and his family members and the audio was released by the Congress on Saturday.
