Hubballi: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has stated that he has not been contacted by former MLC Nagaraj Chabbi, amid speculations of Chabbi joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chabbi, who was denied a Congress ticket for the Kalaghatagi constituency, had earlier announced his intention to resign from the party. However, it remains unclear if he will be joining the BJP.
In response to media queries, Bommai clarified that he is not well aware with Chabbi and has not been in contact with him. The Chief Minister also addressed rumors regarding Minister V Somanna’s candidacy from the Varuna constituency, stating that no discussions have been held on the matter as of yet. Party sources said that the BJP is mulling to field Somanna against former CM Siddaramaiah in Varuna constituency.
Bommai further revealed that he will be traveling to Delhi to take part in the Parliamentary Board meeting, where discussions will be held on all constituencies, including Varuna. The Chief Minister confirmed that for each constituency, two to three candidates have been shortlisted and the parliamentary Board meeting will make the final decision.
Additionally, Bommai dismissed the opposition party’s criticism of film star Sudeep’s support for the BJP, stating that it is a common occurrence for celebrities to endorse political parties or candidates.
