Mysuru: Ruling any kind of understanding between BJP and Janata Dal (Secular), Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said a show of unity helped to win both mayor and deputy mayor posts in the mayoral polls held here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at Mysuru airport on Tuesday, he said Cooperation and district in-charge minister S.T.Somashekhar, MLAs S.A.Ramdas, L.Nagendra, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha and office-bearers of Mysore City BJP unit, and all the corporators have toiled hard in the election. The past experiences and how Mysuru city suffered a setback when the Congress Party was in power, made them understand and arrive at such a decision. “We had told that we are going to contest and others are also free to contest. This decision was taken long back after considering our number of corporators. Likewise, we did so. The JDS tried for the deputy mayor post but the papers were rejected on technical grounds. Our aim is to take everyone into confidence and work for the overall development of the city”.
A good day for Mysuru
Bommai said indeed it was a good day for the Mysuru city as BJP has won both mayor and deputy mayor posts. Last time, they had won only the mayor post but this time, they have got both posts. Let the duo strive for the development of Mysuru city during their tenure, he added.
