Today, a CLP meeting will be held in Bengaluru to elect a new Chief Minister of Karnataka as the Congress party has won a decisive victory in the state assembly elections.
The Election Commission of India has announced that Congress has won 136 seats, surpassing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which was previously in power in the southern state.
BJP was only able to secure 65 seats, while JD(S) won 19, and Independents, Kalyan Rajya Pragati Paksha, and Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha won one seat each.
Throughout the vote-counting process, Congress maintained a consistent lead. The CLP meeting will be attended by observers of AICC, and the newly elected Congress MLAs will elect the CLP leader who will then become the new CM. Among the candidates in the running for the CM position are Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar.
