Thousands of activists are set to participate in a climate protest and rally in New York, featuring Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a headline speaker.
The event, organized under the banner “March to End Fossil Fuels,” aims to urge the Biden administration to take decisive action in phasing out fossil fuels. This demonstration coincides with the upcoming United Nations Climate Ambition Summit, described by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as a no-nonsense conference to emphasize new climate commitments.
During the protest, participants will call for an end to the approval of new oil and gas projects, the gradual cessation of fossil fuel drilling on public lands, the declaration of a federal climate emergency, and support for workers as polluting industries are phased out. These demands have received endorsements from over 500 organizations, including the Sierra Club, NAACP, Sunrise Movement, as well as backing from numerous scientists and celebrities.
