Civic honour to Murmu: Hectic preparation is going on: Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri

Hubballi: Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri has said that preparations to honour President of India Draupadi Murmu on behalf of all citizens of Hubballi-Dharwad on September 26 are progressing at a good pace. He said around 5,000 people would witness the rare event on that day, and invitations would be sent to the invitees at the earliest.

The mayor, flanked by opposition leaders and his party leaders, briefed the media on Sunday about the preparations that are going on to honour the first citizen of the country. He said a German-technology water-proofing tent would be erected on Karnataka Gymkhana Associations Ground and 5,000 chairs would be arranged for seating. Clearance from all the concerned authorities to conduct the event at this location has been obtained; security agencies have scrutinised the venue.

He stated that parking arrangements for visitors will be made; as of now, the HDMC has identified two educational institutions and the KIMS ground for parking, and the venues will most likely be finalized. He said that Murmu would be the third president to visit the city after Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

He said that the HDMC would gift a silver idol of Siddharoodha Swamiji and all the elected representatives, including 82 corporators, of the HDMC would honour the first citizen of the country. Mrs Murmu will leave for a function at IIIT after attending this 70-minute programme. A lunch arrangement has been made for the public at Sawai Gandharva Hall, he said.

Deputy Mayor Uma Mukkund, BJP HDMC members Veeranna Savadi, Shivu Hiremath, Shivu Mensinkai, Santosh Chavan, Suresh Bedre, Congress floor leader Dooraju Mannikuntla and others were present.
