Hubballi: The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Leprologists, Karnataka branch, has launched its flagship program “Charmaratha Abhiyana,” aimed at creating public awareness about skin diseases such as vitiligo, leprosy, and common skin conditions through videos and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities.
The Charmaratha initiative was relaunched in January 2022-23 and is set to cover all districts of Karnataka, reaching prominent public places such as schools, colleges, medical colleges, district hospitals, taluk hospitals, and Primary Health Centers.
The program has covered various parts of Karnataka, including Hubballi and Dharwad, Kundagol, Kalgatagi, Alnavar, and other taluks. Recently, the Charmaratha ratha was flagged off from KIMS Hubballi’s OPD block.
The event was organized by the Department of Skin and Std. KIMS Hubballi, along with the Hubballi Dharwad Dermatologist Association. Dr. Ishwar Hosamani, the Principal of KIMS Hubballi, flagged off the ratha, and several other notable personalities were present, including Dr. Arun Kumar C., Medical Superintendent, KIMS Hubballi, Dr. Mitaxari Hugar, President-Elect of IADVL Karnataka, Dr. Mohan Shendre, Joint Secretary IADVL Karnataka, and Dr. KF Kammar, Dr. Annapurna Sali, Dr. Ghokhale, and other dermatologists from Hubballi and Dharwad.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Hosamani emphasized the need to dispel myths about skin diseases, particularly vitiligo, and leprosy, and stressed the importance of creating awareness about such conditions. Nursing students performed a street play about leprosy, which was highly informative for the public.
