Hubballi: The Union Government has given its approval for the construction of national highway between Belagavi and Raichur via Hungund.
In announcing the project, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mines, and Coal Pralhad Joshi stated that the union government has taken a step forward in meeting the region’s long-standing demand by approving the project. He said that the Union government has announced an economic corridor for smooth and fast movement of passengers, and this stretch is also part of that corridor.
He said that the land acquisition for this project is going on and added that a proposal to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Roads and Surface Transport, had been submitted.
He said once this project gets completed, the 10-hour journey between Miraj and Sollapur would reduce to just 5–6 hours. The 325-km, four-lane highway between Belagavi and Raichur would be built at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore, said Joshi.
The NH is expected to reduce vehicle pressure on this stretch and reduce the travel time between these two cities.
