Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong‘s flagship carrier, has announced the cancellation of 48 flights due to an engine component failure identified in its A350 aircraft, marking a global first for this model. The airline revealed on Monday that the issue arose during the in-flight return of flight CX383, which was en route to Zurich.

“This specific component failure is unprecedented among all A350 aircraft worldwide,” Cathay stated.

In response, the airline promptly informed the aircraft and engine manufacturers, as well as relevant regulatory authorities. As a precaution, Cathay has initiated a comprehensive inspection of its entire fleet of 48 A350 planes. Consequently, 24 return flights, equating to 48 cancellations, have been scrapped until the end of Tuesday, with further updates expected soon.
