Case registered against previous Hubballi Tahsildars for issuing ST certificate without verifying the details

Hubballi: The Sub Urban police have registered a case against previous Tahsildars, revenue inspectors, and village accountants for issuing ST certificates to a man and his minor children without doing proper verification.

According to the police, the accused had obtained an ST certificate for himself and his two children by falsely claiming that he belonged to the ST community. The prime accused is a native of Prakasham district in Andhra Pradesh, and he moved to Karnataka and joined CHESCOM in 1973. In 2000, he obtained a certificate from Hubballi Tahsildar’s office, said the police.

The police complaint says the man also obtained the ST certificates for his son and daughter when they were minors. The police have registered a case against previous Tahsildars, revenue inspectors, and village accounts who were on duty on July 28, 2000, December 26, 2012, October 30, 2017, December 24, 2012, and March 29, 2019, under the SC and the ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (U/s-3(1)(q)); Karnataka SC/ST and Other BC [Reservation of Appointment Act], 1990 (U/s-5(A), 5(b)); and IPC 1860 (U/s-198, 109, 196, 420) for issuing certificates without doing a proper local inspection and not getting verified details about the man and his family. The police are investigating the case.
