Hubballi: Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mines and Coal, has stated that the country will soon achieve self-sufficiency in the coal sector. With the exception of steel plants, he indicated that 90 percent of coal imports will be cut by next year and that the necessary demand would be fulfilled from domestic resources.
During a discussion on the Union Budget at the Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Joshi pointed out that, despite India having the world’s fourth-largest resource of coal, it was imported to the tune of Rs 2.35 lakh core every year. However, as a result of several policy actions implemented by his ministry, the whole import of coal would be halted by 2025.
