Hyderabad: Batting giant Brian Lara has been appointed as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, the legendary batsman replace former Australian all rounder Tom Moody.
This will be the 53-year-first old’s assignment as head coach of a T20 team. Last December, Lara joined SRH as a strategic advisor and batting coach.
“The cricketing legend Brian Lara will be our head coach for the upcoming #IPL seasons,” the IPL team posted on its official Twitter handle.
Moody and SRH parted ways mutually, the Australian leaves after two seasons with the team. Moody had a good tenure with SRH from 2013 to 2019, when the squad made the playoffs five times and won the championship in 2016.
56-year-old Moody was replaced as head coach by fellow Australian Trevor Bayliss in 2020, and he returned to SRH as director of cricket last year.
However, after the squad finished bottom with only three wins, Moody was promoted to coach. Moody’s second spell as head coach did not go well, as the Sunrisers finished eighth in a 10-team event in 2022, with six wins and eight losses.
