Basavaraj Bommai has addressed a letter to the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah and President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee DK Shivakumar, urging that the Mekedatu Padayatra be called off.

The CM noted in the letter that the government is committed to taking all necessary steps to implement this project by taking them into confidence. The coronavirus’s third wave is spreading like anything and people’s lives have been affected due to the spread of infection. It is not healthy for society to have a padayatra by gathering more individuals in this situation. The High Court has already expressed its displeasure, and the general public also is sharing their opinion that the Mekedatu Padayatra should be called off.

“I kindly suggest that you discontinue the Padayatra and join us in our fight against the Coronavirus. We will endeavour to put the proposal into action in the coming days “he stated.

The Congress leaders are holding Padayatra from Sangam to Bengaluru demanding implementation of the Mekedatu project and the Padayatra to reach Bengaluru on January 19.
