The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be running some of its buses using methanol-blended fuel for the first time on Sunday.
Union Minister for Surface Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari will flag off the service of these buses in Bengaluru.
The buses will be operated on a pilot basis, with 10 buses, both BSVI and BSIV, being provided by the corporation. The buses will run on 15% methanol-blended fuel as part of an initiative by the central government and NITI Aayog to reduce pollution and reliance on imported fuel.
The pilot project will run for three months and Indian Oil will provide the blended fuel for the trial run. Additionally, a truck that runs on 100% methanol (M 100) will also be launched.
