Hubballi: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated that Baburao Chinchansur, who had previously joined the BJP from Congress, has returned to his former party. And his decision of quitting the party will have no impact on BJP’s prospectus in Gurmitkal constituency.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, the CM however, expressed confidence that the BJP will still emerge victorious in the Gurmitkal Assembly constituency, citing the party’s strong organization in the area.
Chinchansur, who had also served as an MLC, resigned from his post, which was subsequently accepted. His return to the Congress is being seen as a significant boost to the party in the Kalyan Karnataka region, with Congress leaders asserting that it will prove to be a loss for the BJP in that area.
This is not the first setback for the BJP, as Puttanna, another MLC, had also resigned from his post and joined the Congress, while former MLC Mohan Limbikai had quit the BJP to join the Congress. With elections just around the corner, these developments have come as a blow to the BJP.
Meanwhile, KPCC President DK Shivakumar welcomed Chinchansur’s return to Congress and praised him as a senior leader who would be an asset to the party.
Speaking to reporters at Adichunchangiri Math, Shivakumar denied any knowledge of Minister KC Narayana Gowda potentially joining the Congress, stating that he had not spoken to him and that any further information should be sought directly from Gowda himself.
