Belagavi: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar said the state government has decided to recommend COVID tests for patients suffering from an influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) due to an increase in COVID cases in various parts of the world and the discovery of a new COVID variant.

He was speaking to reporters after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to discuss the strategies to be adopted to prevent the spreading of the coronavirus.

Dr. Sudhakar stated that COVID cases are increasing in China and other countries and that a meeting was held under the leadership of the CM, and it was decided to make the use of masks mandatory indoors and in places where air conditioners are used.It has also been decided to make the COVID test mandatory for those suffering from ILI or SARI.

Central government-issued guidelines would be followed to screen the passengers landing at the state’s international airports. As of now, testing of foreign passengers is being conducted.

He said oxygen plants were established in many hospitals, and directions would be given to those concerned to make sure that those plants were working properly. He said the meeting also decided to reserve a few beds in government hospitals. The state government would issue new guidelines based on the outcome of the Union Government’s meeting on COVID, he said.

Precautionary Dose

The people did not show interest in taking the precautionary, booster, or third dose of the COVID vaccine; only 20 percent of the population has taken the third dose; hence, special vaccination camps would be established to achieve 100 per cent coverage of the third dose, he said.
