Hubballi: You should be very careful before installing an instant loan app on your phone. Availing loans online using instant loan apps has become a day-to-day affair. People are falling prey to fake lending apps or miscreants misusing their personal data, which is on the rise, said Cyber Crime police.
A Dharwad girl student was harassed by digital goons recently, and the incident came to light when she approached Cyber Crime police seeking their help. The student’s Aadhar card and PAN card photos were misused by these miscreants, who affixed the girl’s photos to nude pictures and circulated them to her teachers.
What is the case?
The girl received WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers and the sender claimed that she had availed loans from apps and if she didn’t pay back the loan, they would share it with her personal contacts. After this, the girl discontinued using that SIM, and recently the miscreants sent nude pictures affixing her Aadhaar card and PAN card photos to her teachers.
The police said the student claimed that she did not avail loans from any apps, but police suspect that she might have availed loans, and the police are investigating how the miscreants got her Aadhaar card, PAN card, and personal contacts.
The police said most of the time, people blindly allow apps to access their photos, contacts, and storage space, and in this case, the miscreants might have gained access to these details when she allowed access to photos, contacts, and storage space.
