Hubballi: In collaboration with Hubballi-Dharwad Bus Rapid Transit System (HDBRTS), the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) invited artists from across boundaries to participate in its initiative “Bannada Chigari” to enhance the commuter experience through art.
This initiative is for transit infrastructure in Hubbali-Dharwad. to enliven the spaces in and around the existing transit infrastructure of the HDBRTS. The Directorate of Urban Land Transport and the HDBRTS intend to provide a platform for talented artists to showcase their artistic skills and create artworks that integrate with the built environment in and around the transit station/corridor and connect people to local histories, geographies, and communities.
A few of the key goals that the Bannada Chigari intends to accomplish are:
- Strengthening People’s Sense of Identity in the Transit station or corridor
- Enliven the transitory spaces to create a pleasant experience
- Revive the unused spaces under the flyover along the BRT corridor into activity pockets. In the first phase of this initiative, five sites have been identified which vary in scale, typology as well as immediate geography.
