Ballari: Three agriculture labourers drowned after an auto-rickshaw ferrying the labourers to the fields plunged into an HLC canal near Kolagal village in Ballari district. The incident happened on Wednesday morning, said police.
Ballari Superintendent of Police Saidulu Adavat said that, according to the preliminary information, there were 10 passengers in the autorickshaw, including the driver. The auto was ferrying agriculture labourers to the field when it looked like the driver had lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into the canal.
The SP said four people were rescued, three were killed, and a search is on to trace the remaining three.
According to the locals, the labourers were going to Krishna Nagar from Kolagal to work in the field when this accident happened. They said two died on the spot, one died on the way to the hospital. The driver of the auto-rickshaw was rescued. The deceased have been identified as Ningamma, 35; Durgamma, 35; and Pushapavati, 16.
The search is on for Laxmi, Hulegamma, and Nagaratna, who might have been washed away due to the flow of water. The fire and emergency department staff are looking for the missing people, said locals.
