Belagavi: The issue of establishing the state’s first All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) came to the fore in the Assembly session on Tuesday. Raichur Rural MLA Basangouda Daddal raised this issue through a calling attention motion. Daddal said that Raichur has all the eligibility needed to house the prestigious health institute, as the city has connectivity with a four-lane road, water, and electricity, and the district administration is also ready to give 200 acres of land for the institute.
He said that the former CM Yediyurappa had promised that AIIMS would be established in the district, after they lost IIT to Dharwad, and the people of Raichur really want this institute, and people are staging a protest for more than 200 days demanding that the institute be established in the district.
He said that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai visited Raichur twice in the recent past, and he also promised that it would be established in Raichur. He also demanded that the institute be set up in his district.
In response to this, Minister JC Madhu Swamy said that it was up to the Union Government to decide where it would be established.
