Accident: Three killed, including two police and two injured

Bengaluru: Three police officers attached to Bengaluru police, including a PSI, were killed in a road accident near Putalapattu in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning after the car in which they were travelling met with an accident.

Bengaluru DCP (East) Bheemashankar S Guled said that Police Sub Inspector Avinash, 29, native of Basava Kalyana, Bidar and police constable Anil Mulik, 26, a native of Chikalakere, Jamakandi Taluk, Bagalkot) and Maxwell, driver of the vehicle, 28, native of Gunthakal district, Andhra Pradesh died on the spot.

The other accompanying officers PSI, Dikshith L., 28 of Bengaluru and P.C Sharanabasava, 29,native of  Nilagal, Devadurga Taluk Raichur District were shifted to Government Hospital in Chittoor and from there to CMC vellore for further treatment, he said.

The officers belonging to Shivajinagar Police Station in Bengaluru were sent on duty on a specific tip-off of contraband moving towards Bengaluru from Andhra Pradesh. As such, the officers were travelling in a private vehicle and, from preliminary information, it appears the accident occurred at a barrier on the highway at Putalapattu, in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

The family members of the deceased and injured have been intimated and all assistance and support are being rendered to the families. At this moment of sorrow, he said.
