According to police, a car carrying devotees fell into a 40-foot-deep pit in Tamil Nadu’s Theni district, killing eight people and injuring two others, including a nine-year-old kid.
Following a trip to Sabarimala, ten devotees of Ayyappa from the nearby hamlet of Sanmugasundarapuram were travelling home in their car on Friday night when te accident occurred.
The car crashed into a pit approximately 50 feet deep while they were driving along the Kumuli mountain route toward Iraichalpalam.
According to KV Muralidharan, the district collector of Theni, “eight devotees died after their car slid into a 40-foot-deep pit at Kumuli mountain pass in Theni district,” adding that two people had been rescued and taken to the hospital.
