Accident: 15 killed, 40 injured


Rewa: At least 15 people were killed and 40 others were injured after a bus carrying them crashed with a vehicle on the highway near Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.

The bus, carrying around 100 people, was on its way to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh when it collided with a stationary truck near Suhagi Pahari in Rewa late Friday night.

While the injured were sent to a hospital in Suhagi, those with significant injuries are being treated at Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, according to officials.

According to police, the truck was stranded on the highway after colliding with another vehicle. The bus then rammed the vehicle from behind.

According to Rewa Superintendent of Police Navneet Bhasin, the majority of the passengers in the bus Uttar Pradesh labourers who had boarded the vehicle aboard Madhya Pradesh’s Katni.

Officials stated the labourers arrived in Katni by separate bus from Hyderabad and were returning home for Diwali.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has announced Rs two lakh compensation for the families of those killed in the accident. Each severely injured person will receive Rs 50,000.

Shivraj Singh Chauhan, his Madhya Pradesh counterpart, has also expressed grief over the disaster. The Rewa district government is making arrangements to deliver the remains to their family members in Uttar Pradesh, according to the Chief Minister’s office.
