Bagalkote: A student found the confidence to tell the officers about a child marriage he witnessed during the peak of the pandemic during a public hearing organized by the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) to hear about the challenges children suffered during the pandemic.

When KSCPCR chairperson Dr Anthony Sebastian learned of the incident, he immediately directed officials to file a case against the man for marrying an underage girl.

During the meeting, a female student described the difficulties she was having at her relative’s residence after her parents died as a result of COVID. The Chairperson requested that the girl be admitted to Balamandir.

Students from Haveri, Vijayapura, Gadag, Dharwad, Bagalkote, and Belagavi attended the event and discussed their encounters with the pandemic.
