Haveri: Curiosity killed the cat, as the idiom-proverb goes. A man spotted a few suspicious items without realizing they were little explosives, and he broke one of them out of curiosity and injured his hand.
Abdul Khader Hadimani, 50, a resident of Hosanagar in Haveri, was hurt in the incident, which occurred on Saturday within the Haveri police station limits.
The injured found the suspected explosives in an open plot in the middle of stones kept for the construction of his relative’s house, according to the police. He was ecstatic when he discovered the material and thought he had discovered something exceptional, so he took it to Kaginele Road with a friend. He tried to open the material with a stone on a bridge, but it blew up, injuring his hand.
The explosives totalled 30 in number, according to Nagamma, the police inspector of Haveri Rural police station. It’s possible that these materials were used to kill wild boars, but that hasn’t been confirmed, she said. “The specialist team will determine what chemical is used in the betel nut-sized bombs”, she said and added that the investigation is ongoing.
