Hubballi: A man from Mandya district registered an FIR with APMC/Navanagar police here, alleging that a few people allegedly forced him to change his religion and accept Islam.
According to the police complaint filed by the victim, he was suffering from financial problems, and he shared his ordeal with an accused named Attavar Rahman, a resident of Maddur taluk, Mandya district, and he took the victim to Bengaluru four to five months ago, knowing that the victim belongs to the SC community.
Attavar Rahaman allegedly introduced the victim to Ajisab in Bengaluru. Ajisab allegedly started preaching Islam, and the victim was allegedly kept in illegal confinement in Kabarastan, in the Banashankari area of Bengaluru, for a week. The accused had snatched away the victim’s phone and continued preaching Islam. Later, the accused, Ajisab, and seven others forcefully tried to perform circumcision, but that went wrong and he suffered an injury to his private parts, said the complaint.
The complaint further reads that the victim was forced to open a bank account in Bengaluru and later he was taken to a few mosques, markazs in South India. And they also clicked a photograph of him holding a licenced pistol that belonged to one of the accused. The eleven accused had threatened him that he had to convert at least three people a year to Islam, failing which they would upload his photos on social media sites and project him as a terrorist.
The accused released the victim by placing his sim card in another phone. Even after this, the accused continued harassing him about the work they assigned to him. The victim came to Hubballi’s Bhairdevarakoppa area to meet his friend, who had befriended her on Facebook. When he was roaming in the area, the locals thrashed him for roaming suspiciously. He was admitted to KIMS and after discharge; he went to the APMC police and registered an FIR narrating the entire episode.
The police have charged Nayaj Pasha, Nadim Khan, Ansar Pasha, Syed Dastgir, Mohammed Iqbal, Rafiq, Shabbir, Khalid, Shakil, and Altaf under the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act 2015 (U/s-3 (2)(v)); IPC 1860 (U/s-506,504,149,295A, 323,324,326,344,344).
Police sources said that a police team from Hubballi led by an ACP has gone to Bengaluru to investigate the case.
