A five-year-old girl died of MIS-C syndrome

Davanagere: A five-year-old girl died of Multisystem inflammatory disease in children (MIS-C) syndrome at SS Hitech Hospital here in the early hours of yesterday (Friday).

The five-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital in critical condition, with multi-organ failure including her heart, liver, and lungs as a suspected MIS-C case, she was referred to this hospital by Basaveshwar Medical College Chitradurga, said Dr N K Kalappanavar, Medical Director of SS Hitech Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital on Thursday evening and died at 1 a.m. on Friday, he added.

Dr Kalappanavar told that the baby was hardly in the hospital for a few hours. She was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. “Despite our best efforts, we could not save her. Her antibody titration was very high. It means she had been infected with Covid in the past. We have successfully treated nine kids with MIS-C but this is the only case we could not able to save,” he said.

The parents had tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. They are from the Shira taluk in Tumakuru district, said the sources.

A tiny percentage of children who’ve had COVID-19 develop multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C).
This dangerous complication can show up weeks after the illness.
