66 SDM Medical College students test positive for COVID; DC Nitesh Patil will visit the institute.

As many as 66 SDM College medical students have tested positive for a novel coronavirus. Doctors say it is a cluster outbreak of the infection that resulted after an event organized in the college and it is said that around 200 students took part in that event.

Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil confirms that as many as 66 students tested positive for the infection till 10 am this morning and the numbers are likely to go up, he said and added that around 500 students gave their swabs and of which 66 tested positive.

The DC informed us that they would test all the students who were part of the event and their primary contacts also. He said the administration would make all efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

Nitesh Patil also informed us that they have sealed down the hostels and the students who gave the swab and are awaiting results are in quarantine and those who have tested positive are availing treatment. All the students who tested positive are doing fine. He said patients and those who accompanied them in the hospital should be careful and asked to follow all the COVID norms.

Mr. Patil requested all the residents of the Twin Cities and the district to follow the COVID norms as the pandemic is not over yet.
