
Hubballi: It appears that twin city residents took advantage of the state transportation department’s one-time 50% discount on pending traffic fines to clear backlog cases that had not been resolved.
The twin city police have collected Rs 73,31,935 (so far) in fines and closed 29,659 cases; today (February 11) was the last day to pay the pending fine.
The last day of the deadline for clearing the pending fines received a great response from the public; as many as 9,824 people paid the fines at the stations or by visiting officers who had PDA devices with them and 614 people visited Karnataka One centres to pay the fine. (The amount and settled cases may go up as people are still visiting the stations to clear the pending fines and it will go up to midnight today), said Police Commissioner Raman Gupta.
On the first day (February 4), 1,249 people took advantage of this rebate. On the second day, 4518 people paid the overdue fine. On the third day, 2,119; the fourth day, 3,757; the fifth day, 3,076; the sixth day, 3,909; and on the seventh day, 4,781 individuals cleared their pending traffic fines.
