Local authorities reported that a railway bridge that was under construction near the Sairang region of Mizoram collapsed on Wednesday, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 17 workers’ lives, with concerns raised about the potential for numerous others being trapped under the debris.
According to media accounts, approximately 35-40 workers were on-site when the incident took place, roughly 21 kilometers away from Aizawl, at around 10:00 am .
A police official stated, “Seventeen fatalities have been confirmed from the wreckage up to this point, while a significant number of individuals remain unaccounted for.”
