Hubballi: In a late evening political development, 16 members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) have threatened to resign from their posts.
The members have written a letter to the State BJP president, Nalinkumar Kateel, expressing their disappointment that their favorite leader, former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, was not featured in the first two lists of candidates released by the party for the upcoming elections.
The corporators are upset that Shettar, who they consider a tall leader in the party, was made to wait and his name was not announced in the first list despite his seniority. A party worker who was present during the signing of the letter stated that it was meant to convey their intention to resign from their posts if Shettar is not given a ticket by the party. The corporators believe that the party should understand their feelings and allocate Shettar the ticket.
There are also reports that a few party office bearers have written similar letters to the state party president, although the exact number is not clear at this time. The members’ threat to resign highlights the dissatisfaction among some BJP HDMC members over the delay in announcing Shettar’s name and the perceived lack of recognition for his seniority.
The corporators are Deputy Mayor Uma Mukkund, Tippanna Majagi, Santosh Chavan, Rajanna Koravi, Kishan Belagavi, Seema Mogalishettar, Mallikarjun Gundur, Umesh Gouda Koujageri, Mahadevappa Naragund, Veeranna Savadi, Beerappa Khandekar, Roopa Shetty, Veena Bharadwad, Saraswati Dhongadi, Chandrika Mestri, and Meenakshi Vantamuri,
