Chikkamagalur: After a lady died in an elephant attack in the area, ten people in Chikkamagalur were detained on allegations of attacking BJP MLA M.P. Kumaraswamy from Mudigere Assembly constituency.
The event occurred on Sunday in the Hullemane Kunduru in the Mudugere taluk, and the arrests were made there.
Sources claim that the locals were protesting while carrying the body of a lady who had been killed by an elephant. Late in the evening, BJP MLA Kumaraswamy paid a visit to the site.
Although they had been protesting since the morning, the villagers took their frustration out on the BJP MLA for failing to address the elephant threat and for being late. They began interrogating him in the singular, throwing insults at him, tearing his clothes, and started hitting him. The MLA was saved and led to his vehicle by the police amidst stone-throwing. The people had also damaged vehicles.
The police had to use a lathi charge to disperse the throng that was around MLA Kumaraswamy. The local woman Shobha’s funeral rites have not yet been performed.
