Hubballi: Police team led by Keshwapur Police Inspector Jagdish Hanchinal and APMC Inspector Vishwanath Chougale have arrested an accused who was involved in a theft case and absconding for months. The team recovered stolen cash of Rs 2.80 lakh and a car from the possession of the accused.
The police team led by both inspectors arrested the accused in Hassan city on Wednesday. The accused Mohammad Iqbal, 56, is the resident of Vijaynagar Park in Hassan.
Speaking to www.hubliexpress.com Inspector Jagdish Hanchinal said the accused is a habitual offender and an expert in attention diversion thefts. He used to target shops in APMCs, similar cases of theft were registered against his name in many police stations in the state, said Hanchinal.
WHAT IS THE CASE?
According to the police, the accused had stolen away Rs 4.80 lakh from a cash locker by entering the shop of Syedsab Limbuwale in APMC yard on February 8 afternoon.
According to Inspector Hanchinal, the accused used the car of his friend to escape after stealing the money. “We got a definite tip-off about his whereabouts and because of lockdown, he was in his house and a team of police secured him from his house. The police recovered only Rs 2.80 lakh and the remaining Rs 2 lakh, the accused spent on his son’s marriage,” said the inspector.
Another accused involved in the crime is still at large said the police.
The police team involved KB Biranur, CY Bakkasad, BN Rathod, MS Chikkamath, RK Bhadankar, Ravi Gomakkanavar, NH Gudimani, MJ Rakkasagi, SM Diddi, KK Karbari helped in nabbing the accused.
