CNG and electric buses to replace old buses in the RTCs: Sriramulu

Dharwad: The Transport Department is mulling replacing old buses with new CNG and electric-powered buses in state Road Transport Corporations, said Transport Minister B Sriramulu.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the automated driving test track and vehicle fitness testing and validation center at the Dharwad West RTO in the Rayapur Industrial Development area on Saturday.

He said the union government has suggested replacing the old buses with CNG and electric-powered buses in the state, and hence these buses will start appearing on the roads soon, said the minister.

He also announced that automated driving test tracks would be established in all the districts. He said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has allocated a fund of Rs 2,500 crore towards the salary of the staff of the transport corporations. And the government is reinstating the employees who were sacked for participating in the strike just before the second wave of the COVID, he said.

MLA Arvind Bellad, NWKRTC chairman VS Patil, KSRTC MD Shivayogi Kalasad, and others were present.
