Hubballi: The Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) is in the news for all the wrong reasons recently, from failing to effectively treat the Covid patients, or effectively rectifying the hospital system.
The recent surprise visit of Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi to the hospital had opened a plethora of problems the hospital was facing. The minister was stunned looking at the mismanagement of the hospital and many staff including the director had faced the wrath of the minister.
The minister’s visit to the hospital proved that everything was not right in the BIMS and many felt that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s intervention was required to set things right, said sources.
It is said that the CM is expected to visit the BIMS on June 4 and it is said that he is likely to take stock of the situation.
Just two days before the visit of Chief Minister to Belagavi, BIMS director Dr Vinay Dastikoppa citing personal reasons has requested to go on one month leave from June 2 and the letter of his leave requesting to grant the leave had gone viral on social media. And his decision of going on leave has raised many questions in the minds of the public. The director sent the letter to the Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department.
In the letter which is circulating in the public domain, he said in his absence, the Anatomy department head Dr Umesh Kulkarni will discharge the duty as the director.
Known Kannada activist, president of Belagavi district Kannada Organisations Working Committee Ashok Chandaragi told hubliexpress.com that BIMS need major surgery and he wrote a detailed letter to the Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa recently highlighting the issues BIMS was facing and the ordeals of poor patients facing to get treatment at the hospital.
Chandaragi said “It is high time to correct the things at BIMS and make it one of the best government hospitals of the state so that poor patients of the district should get the best treatment for their ailments.”
He requested Chief Minister himself to visit the hospital to get first-hand information on health care facilities at the hospital.
“If CM visits the hospital, he should visit to set things right at the hospital, even after his visit to the hospital if the things remain same then it is no use. The government, to avoid embarrassment, deliberately sent BIMS director Dr Vinay Dastikoppa on leave.”
