Koppal: An incident of Dalits were denied haircuts happened in Yelaburga police station limit recently. Two brothers belonging to the Dalit community faced humiliation, and they were beaten black and blue by a mob of around 14 people for asking why the barbers refusing to do haircut to them. Later the brothers tried to end their life feeling bad about the incident, the police complaint said.
The Yelaburga police have registered a case against 16 people in connection with the incident. They have booked the accused under sections of IPC 143,147, 504, 323, 355, 506, with 149, 3(1)(s), 3(1)(r), 3(1) (zc), SC/ST Act.
According to the police, the incident happened in Hosalli village in Yelaburga taluk in Koppal district recently. They said the victim went to the barbers who were doing haircuts in the village and asked the barbers to do a haircut for them as well. For this the barbers refused to offer their service claiming that they were Dalits, the victim questioned this but others who were waiting for their turn for hair cut started abusing the victim and beaten them and used foul language against their caste, said the police.
After this incident, the victim went home and tried to end their lives by consuming poison. Luckily they were shifted to District Hospital in Koppal by the relatives in time and they are being treated, said the police.
